Special Ability
Special Ability — a unique skill that can be used at any time during the game while the player remains in the temporary camp, except during the voting process. It is displayed at the end of the character's main traits — a card on a green background. Each player has two such cards from the start of the game.
There are different types of special ability cards in the game, which can be grouped as follows:
- Modify/add traits for one player. Such cards can save or hinder a player.
- Modify traits for all players. Be cautious when using these cards, as you might, for example, regenerate the health of all players, making half of the bunker residents disabled, useless, or contagious.
- Change the catastrophe, bunker, or food supply in the bunker. These are useful cards that are often underestimated. Remember that the catastrophe affects the difficulty of survival after exiting the bunker. Changing the food supply or bunker conditions can also improve certain players' chances of survival.
- Exchange traits and steal. This type of card should be used at the right moment, as other players might cancel or regenerate traits for specific players, including yourself or everyone. It's important to remember that you can steal inventory, which may hold several items, including those granted by the player’s specialty or previously stolen from others.
- Protection from elimination and protection from special abilities, including their cancellation. Holding onto protection as long as possible is crucial, as it can provide a second chance in a critical moment or even help a player enter the bunker.
Each subsequent special ability is independent of the previous one. For example, if a player uses the ability "Cancel All Specialties," any player can then use an ability that generates a specialty for everyone or a specific player.
How to use a card correctly so that the host isn’t confused by follow-up questions to the cardholder about how to use it?
It’s very simple! To use one of your cards, simply say the magic phrase: “Stop the game! I, player with nickname ##, want to use a special ability” and then explain how you want to use the card and on whom, if necessary. The host will execute this unless someone stops the game with a card canceling the ability (the host does not need to ask players if they want to use such a card). If you do not state your nickname, it will take the host time to identify who is speaking. Respect the host!
Important points:
- Do not hint too explicitly at the cards you hold. Declaring a card without playing it is prohibited. If you declare it, you must play it.
- Each card can only be used once and immediately after it is revealed.
- If a player uses a card in an impossible way, the card is voided. For example, using the card “Reduce Disease Severity by 1” on a player with a mild disease. In this case, the card is voided, and the player remains with a mild disease.
- The resurrection card can only be used if the player is still in the game and able to reveal missing traits. If the player has left the game, they cannot be resurrected.
- When changing a player’s inventory, all their items disappear, including specialty items if the specialty provides them and they have been used.
